Tomorrowland unveils new CORE stage in Mexico

January 16, 2024 - News

Tomorrowland has unveiled its brand new CORE stage in Mexico this past weekend.

Designed and crafted by the festival’s in-house creative team, the stage was in progress for over a year before its world premiere at the second edition of CORE Tulum on Saturday (13th January).

“The CORE stage started off as a crazy 3D design idea, which seemed almost impossible to turn into an actual stage,” a spokesperson for CORE told DJ Mag. “After its first introduction at Tomorrowland’s digital festival, the festival’s creative team didn’t want to spare any efforts to have the stage come to life. They turned the craziest dreams into reality.”

The new stage is “completely integrated into Tulum’s jungle scenery”, they continued, with a rocky structure and variety of nature and water elements. It stands at a huge 17 meters high and 30 meters wide, with a total of 209 moving lights, alongside numerous water geysers, LED flares, fog machines and more.

CORE’s inaugural outing featured performances by Boys Noize, Diplo, Disclosure, HAAi, and Mind Against, alongside a new audiovisual experience developed specifically for the stage. The sonic focus of CORE will remain “alternative house and techno music”, the Tomorrowland spokesperson revealed, “branching off to different subgenres with both internationally renowned acts, as well as new talents.”

Following the stage’s grand reveal in Tulum, where it will remain until 20th January for the second weekend of the festival, there are plans for the CORE stage to “pop up around the globe” at various Tomorrowland events. It will also feature at the festival’s main festival in summer.

“There are currently a lot of plans to bring the new CORE stage to different continents and countries around the world,” said the spokesperson, with a focus on “unique locations that are integrated into nature.”

With this in mind, the “entire stage has been developed for touring”, with fully-inflatable stage decorations and deconstructable fixtures that “fit into one container”.

Currently, the CORE stage has only been officially confirmed to appear at Tomorrowland’s flagship Belgian festival in 2024, but the spokesman noted that fans can expect “exciting news soon”.
