BERLIN WILL HOST A NEW VERSION OF THE LOVE PARADE IN 2022

February 2, 2021 - News

A techno carnival similar to the famous Love Parade will take place in Berlin in 2022.
Rave The Planet aims to bring the spirit of the Love Parade back to the streets of the German capital on July 9 2022 and has already raised €400,000 to fund its cause.
The public event was due to take place this year but has obviously been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Organisers say they’ve “secured and registered” the 2022 date with the relevant authorities in Berlin.
The new parade counts the likes of Oliver Huntemann, Felix Kröcher, Christian Smith, Bebetta, Gabriel Ananda and Mathew Jonson among its supporters and is co-lead by German techno legend and original Love Parade co-founder Dr. Motte.

Organisers say the parade is based on their “we are one family” ethos and this new movement aims to “protect, promote and develop the culture of electronic dance music in all its forms. And to develop it further.”
Other missions of the Rave The Planet movement include the classification of “the culture of electronic dance music as an Immaterial Cultural Heritage under the UNESCO” and to “establish an official celebration of electronic dance music culture, with an annual event: A new parade, in the spirit of the Berlin Love Parade, based on its original values, progressively designed for the 21st century.”

1.6 million people attended the Love Parade at its peak and it was widely regarded as a cultural revolution powered by techno throughout the 90s and, after a short break, the latter half of the 00s. It began in July 1989, mere months before the Berlin Wall fell, and embodied the city’s reputation as the heartland of European dance music.
The Love Parade ended in tragedy when a stampede killed 21 people at the 2010 edition of the festival. A trial to hold organisers to account over the deaths began in 2017 but recently ended with no convictions.
Da Hool’s tribute to the event, ‘Meet Her At The Love Parade’, is included as one of Mixmag’s best mid 90s trance tracks.
